Breast augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures, safely enlarging and reshaping a women’s breasts. There are several variations in the placement of an implant which Dr. Garber will discuss with you at the time of your consultation. Breast augmentation helps you look and feel better as well as helping to regain a more youthful shape to your breasts. Breast augmentation is done at a surgical center as an outpatient procedure.
At your consult, Dr. Garber will discuss with you types of implants available as well as your desires and the look you would like to achieve. Several days following surgery, you will return to the office, your dressings will be removed and you will be placed in a support bra for several weeks. He will discuss all post operative instructions at the time of your visit.
Following surgery you will rest for several days as well as four weeks of light activity. Most patients return to work within one week.
There are a number of options available in modern breast augmentation procedures, including options for size, type, and shape of implant, placement of incision, and placement of the implant.
The saline implants are constructed of a gel-like outer shell made of silicone, which is filled with a sterile saline solution.
FDA silicone filled breast implants are now safe and effective for use in breast augmentation and breast reconstruction.
Primary types of incision site are as follows:
Periareolar incision or an incision made around the areola, or the darkened area of skin surrounding the nipple.
Inframmamory incision or an incision made along the crease on the underside of the breast. Because the incision is located in the crease beneath the breast, the scarring will be obscured from view.
Subglandular placement of breast implants means that the implant is placed beneath the mammory gland, but on top of the muscle.
Subpectoral placement of breast implants means that the implant is placed beneath both the mammory gland and the pectoralis major muscle, at the top of the implant.
Submuscular placement of breast implants means that the implant is placed beneath the mammory gland, the pectoralis muscle at the top of the implant, and beneath other minor chest muscles at the bottom of the implant.
There are many options available and many determining factors that go into making a decision about breast augmentation. It is often easier and most effective to set up a consultation with Dr. Garber to discuss your decision making process and determine what options are right for you.
